Frequently Asked Questions about rapelling.

What is rappelling?

Rappelling is when individuals descend or are lowered down a rock face or over a cliff edge using ropes and equipment. The individual wears a harness and is attached to the rope, the rope is then fed through a belay device creating friction and lowering the person to the ground. This is done using proper safety equipment and under supervision of a guide or qualified individual. Rappelling is a great way to see beautiful views while experiencing the thrill of lowering down a rock cliff.

Who can go rappelling?

Anyone can go rappelling – men, women, children and youth. Individuals must safely fit a harness and be safely secured.

How do I stay safe when rappelling?

Rappelling is a simple activity, however like all adventure sports there is the potential for injury. Because individuals are lowered down from significant heights, it is crucial to have the proper equipment and to rappel with a guide or someone who is highly trained and experienced in this activity.
